Metro Manila Film Festival 2016: Indie VS Mainstream

The list of entries for the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF have been released and Pinoy moviegoers are torn about the finalists. With more independently-produced films and films that are heavy on the story (not so much on the starpower) some people are enraged while some are beyond ecstatic.

On one side, they are happy about the diversity in this year’s roster. On the other side, a lot of fans are angered by the exclusion of masa-favorites Enteng Kabisote (Vic Sotto films) and Vice Ganda. Much like the current political landscape of the Philippines, it seems that people are also as divided when it comes to movie choices.

In this video I talk about a quick summary of each of this year’s MMFF finalists, based on what I saw in the trailers. This includes Seklusyon, Die Beautiful, Sunday Beauty Queen, Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2, Kabisera, Vince & Kath & James, Oro, and Saving Sally.

I also discuss what the word “indie” truly means. Watch the video below to hear my verdict on what the Filipino movie-lover should actually be doing.

This is dedicated to all Pinoy movie fans!

I’m super excited to see the films! So far, the most intriguing for me is Seklusyon. Let’s keep on supporting the local film industry, both the mainstream and indie ones!
