DIY Haircolor – Etude’s Bubble Hair Color in Wine Red
0
January 3rd, 2012Culture, Random StuffI have never had my hair colored before. Well, not unless you count getting Cellophane treatments which aren’t really that obvious because they just add a bit of (colored) shine to your hair.
Anyway, I was getting bored in terms of my hair and I was in the mood to experiment, so getting some serious color popped into my mind. It was a toss-up between getting my hair done in a salon OR doing it myself. After consulting with some friends, I decided to go the path of DIY haircolor and this is where I discovered Etude’s Bubble Hair Coloring product.
I bought two boxes of the bubble color, one is Wine Red which is for me, and the other is Dark Brown which I will give to my mom. I also bought their Silk Scarf Hair Treatment because I’m also a fan of DIY haircare products. The bubble hair colors were PHP378 each, and the bottle/tube of hair treatment is also PHP378.
And because my bill reached one thousand pesos, they gave me a free bottle of Etude Wonder Pore Toner. They said it was their latest promo and that this toner is great for minimizing ugly pores on the face. (Not that I have ugly pores. LOL!) But hey, it’s free, so thanks!
The saleslady also said that I’m now entitled to the Etude House Pink Membership Card. She asked me to fill out a simple form and voila, I got the card for free. It’s a rewards system for regular customers. Each time you purchase you get points that you can use like cash on your future visits.
According to their website:
What are the benefits of being a Pink Member?
You are entitled to get 2% rebate whenever you make a purchase at any Etude House boutique (minimum of P100 worth of purchase) with your Pink Card. You also get special perks such as invites to promos and events exclusively for Pink Members.ANYWAY, BACK TO HAIR COLORING…..
As I’ve mentioned, I wanted to color my hair with Wine Red. Here is what the box contains: 1) the pump bottle with a chemical inside, 2) the big sachet of coloring agent, 3) a small purple sachet of hair conditioning treatment, 4) plastic gloves and a plastic cape for the user’s convenience, and 5) a Korean instructions guide which is umm.. a bit next to useless..
Let’s begin with a shot of my hair, prior to coloring. This one has undergone a cellophane treatment a few months ago, that’s why there’s a little hint of color where the sun strikes.
STEP 1: Twist open the pump bottle. You’ll notice that there is a clear liquid inside it.
STEP 2: Twist open the top of the pink sachet and pour its contents inside the pump bottle. Shake/Swirl the bottle oh so gently in order for the contents to mix. Make sure not to get too rough because the bottle gets a little hot while the chemicals are mixing. We don’t want any disasters to happen.
STEP 4: Cover up! Wear the plastic gloves on your hands and cover your clothes/shoulders with the plastic cape. This way, you won’t get color on places where it shouldn’t be. This reminds me, make sure to do the process in a secure place (like your bathroom) because there’s bound to be a mess. In my case, I just covered the table with a separate plastic so color doesn’t spill over to our table.
PS: I appreciate these additional trinkets inside the box. Looks like they really thought about the customer’s needs during product development. Hehe.
STEP 5: Use the pump and place a lavish amount of foam on your hands. Noticed how the mixture is now purple? Chemical reactions 101!
STEP 6: Apply the foam to your hair starting from your roots and working your way towards the ends. Make sure to cover your hair evenly. It would be wise to divide your hair into segments for easier application. Obviously I couldn’t take a picture of myself since both my hands were busy and covered with colored foam, so here’s another snapshot of the graphic guide on the side of the box.
STEP 7: Wait. After covering your hair with the foam and massaging it to ensure it applies evenly, leave it to sit for 30 minutes. Go check your Facebook accounts first or watch an episode of How I Met Your Mother while waiting.
You can use a clamp to put your hair up and do last-minute applications to the roots at the bottom of your hair. (And also to avoid dripping or getting your clothes dirty.)STEP 8: Rinse. Wash your hair with water only.
STEP 9: Condition. After rinsing your hair, you’ll notice that it’s become hard, dry and kinda dead. 0_0 Don’t worry, just open the purple sachet of hair treatment and apply it to your hair in order to save it from doom. Think of it like conditioning after you shampoo. Massage it onto your hair then leave it for a couple of minutes before rinsing it out again.
AND THAT’S IT! YOU’RE DONE!!!
But wait, let’s add another step here…
STEP 10: Clean up. Make sure to clean up your mess after everything has been said and done!
Okay, time to see the results. The first two were shot with camera flash. The last one, without.
Here’s a shot of it taken outdoors with a bit of help from Mr. Sun.
HERE’S MY VERDICT:
Etude House Bubble Hair Coloring Treatment is very easy to use and it’s also very affordable (PHP 378 versus PHP 1,000++ in salons). As for the effects, it wasn’t as drastic as I expected but it’s okay since personally, I wasn’t that ready for FIRE ENGINE RED hair. I looked at other blogs prior to using it and saw that people had various results anyway. I think it depends on your hair length, health, and whether or not it has been colored before. How much product you use matters as well. In my case I didn’t use ALL of the foam in the pump bottle and even gave some to my kid brother.
Will I recommend this product to my friends and readers? OF COURSE! I’m happy with the results and am excited to see how my mom’s hair will turn out once she uses the Dark Brown variant.
Good luck on your hair experiments! :)
